Boldly Creating Life Foundation

Boldly Creating Life Foundation is Born

Boldly Creating Life Foundation (BCLF) officially became a non-profit organization on March 30, 2011. Although at the time of writing this blog we are awaiting tax exempt status from the IRS for our non-profit 501(C)(3) organization, there much work to be done in the meantime.

Gladys Jimenez and Sherita Herring in Henderson, Nevada. Learning about running a non-profit.

The concept for the foundation began in August 2009, during a class Gladys Jimenez (Founder of BCLF) was volunteering at, at a local elementary school. Since 1998 Gladys has been sharing her passion for art with children. Art is an important part of the curriculum that is often taken out of the classroom due to budget cuts. Art provides a venue for children to express themselves, and as research has shown, children involved in an art program perform better in other academic subjects overall.

Gladys found it hard to teach children with the limited art supplies the school budget allowed. She began buying art supplies with her own funds and posting ads on Craigslist and Facebook, requesting donations of art supplies and magazines. There were some kind people that responded to her request.

As another school year began in August 2010, Gladys saw the need for all children to have an opportunity to create and experience art, but with less art supplies and hardly any other volunteers left, she knew she could not do it alone.

On September 2010 Gladys hired Sherita Herring, at Kreative Image Foundation, and began the process of creating a non-profit organization that would bring art back into the public school classrooms that did not have an art program.

As the vision and plans for the foundation developed, other components were added that were equally needed. For example, physical activities, our children are experiencing health problems due to the lack of physcial education in schools. The Foundation will bring programs that will foster well-being through dance, martial arts, drama, and a teen program that will help teens to make the right choices when it comes to drugs, alcohol, and bullying.

With the help of college students, artists, teachers, sponsors, donors, volunteers, and the community, together we can make a difference.

We are aware as we begin our journey that there is much work ahead of us, but our passion for our cause fuels our way. It is our hope that you, the reader, will join us as we take our first steps. Find out more on how you can contribute.
